Dr. Zaid Jamal Al-Kanani, a dentist, warned of the dangers of smoking on dental health, stressing the need to quit this habit to maintain a healthy smile.
He confirmed in statements to Al Arabiya channel that smoking leads to the accumulation of a layer of tar and nicotine on the surface of the teeth, which causes them to yellow and lose their luster. Smoking also affects the balance of the mouth, which leads to increased growth of bacteria that cause tooth decay.
He stressed that “smoking is one of the most important risk factors for gum diseases, such as gingivitis and worsening gingivitis, which may lead to tooth loss. Smoking is one of the most important risk factors for oral cancer, which is one of the most dangerous types of cancer.”
Zaid Al-Kanani advised maintaining dental health from the harms of smoking, saying: “Quitting smoking is the first and most important step to maintaining dental health. It is recommended to brush your teeth with a brush and toothpaste twice a day, use dental floss once a day, and visit the dentist regularly to clean your teeth professionally.”
He also stressed the need to take care of dental health regularly, especially for smokers, to maintain a healthy and attractive smile.
