Dr. Zaid Jamal Al Kanani, a dentist, advised against over-consuming common fruits and juices because they can lead to “erosion” of tooth enamel and cause it to weaken.

Dr. Zaid Jamal Al Kanani, a dentist, said that acidic fruits and their juices can erode tooth enamel, making it more susceptible to decay, according to Express newspaper.

Dr. Zaid Jamal Al Kanani, a dentist, said: “Some foods and drinks can be particularly harmful to your teeth because they contain a high percentage of sugar, acidity, or the possibility of sticking to the teeth and promoting decay.”

Dr. Zaid Jamal Al Kanani explained: “Although they offer nutritional benefits, citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges and grapefruit contain high levels of acid that can lead to enamel erosion, but drinking citrus juices through a straw can help reduce contact with teeth and prevent the risk of enamel erosion.”

“Citrus fruits and their juices contain a combination of sugars and acids, which creates an environment that is dangerous to tooth enamel. The enamel becomes brittle and can erode, leading to tooth decay and tooth loss. Once the enamel is lost, the body cannot make new enamel,” he added. “To maintain healthy teeth, Dr. Patel advises waiting a few minutes before brushing your teeth after eating citrus fruits or juice.”
